Christmas Gifts for Dogs: Personalized Keepsakes, Stockings & Gift Boxes

By PODPAWS Editorial · · 5 min read

Christmas is the one gifting season where pets are genuinely part of the plan. Stockings get hung for the dog, the tree gets an ornament with their face on it, and the presents under it include something chosen just for them. If you are looking for Christmas gifts for dogs, here is what tends to be worth buying.

Personalized Christmas Gifts for Dogs

A personalized dog Christmas gift beats a generic toy for a simple reason: it is about a specific dog, not dogs in general. An ornament, a stocking, or a keepsake made from their photo is the kind of thing that gets unpacked every December for years. See our guide to custom pet photo gifts.

Dog Christmas Gift Boxes and Stockings

A dog Christmas gift box or stocking works well when you want the unwrapping to feel substantial. The best ones mix a few consumables with one keepsake, so the dog gets the morning and the owner gets the memory.

For Cat Households

Cat Christmas gifts follow the same logic with calmer execution. Personalized decor and keepsakes featuring the cat tend to land better than anything requiring the cat to wear something.

Christmas Gifts for Dog Lovers

If the recipient is a person, Christmas gifts for dog lovers that feature their own dog are consistently the ones that get the biggest reaction. Our Christmas gifts for dog lovers guide covers 25 personalized ideas in detail.

Order Timing

Everything PODPAWS makes is custom-produced from your photo, so December shipping deadlines matter. Order early — personalized gifts cannot be rushed in the final week.

How to Choose a Christmas Gift by Age and Temperament

A puppy and a twelve-year-old dog want different things from December, and buying for the dog in front of you beats buying for “dogs” in general. For a puppy under a year, the gift that matters is usually something to chew that is not a chair leg — a durable rubber toy, a frozen treat toy, a rope light enough for small teeth. Adolescent dogs need work more than objects: a puzzle feeder or a snuffle mat does more for a two-year-old lab than another plush duck that will be disembowelled by Boxing Day.

Senior dogs are the ones people get wrong most often. By ten or eleven, most dogs want warmth and traction more than novelty — a raised bed, an orthopedic pad, a mat by the radiator. If the dog is slowing down, a personalized keepsake starts to carry a different weight for the owner too, because it is no longer only about this Christmas. Anxious dogs should not be given anything that beeps, squeaks or flashes; the gift will be ignored at best. And if there is a cat in the house, remember that the cat will claim whatever the dog receives within forty-eight hours, so buy two of anything soft.

What to Send Us for a Photo Keepsake

Everything PODPAWS makes starts from one photograph, and the photograph decides most of the outcome. The best image is boring in the right way: face visible, eyes open, natural daylight, no heavy filters, no motion blur. A photo taken on a phone in a bright room beats a professional shot where the dog is a silhouette against a window. If the dog has passed, use the picture where they look most like themselves — the one you would show someone who never met them — rather than the most recent one.

Two or three photos are better than one if you have them, because we can see the shape of the muzzle and the set of the ears from more than one angle. Avoid red-eye flash, heavy shadows across the face, and anything where the pet is wearing a costume that hides their outline. Before any materials are cut or fired, you get a free digital preview, so you see the likeness while changes are still free.

The Christmas Cut-Off Is November 20, 2026

The arithmetic here is plain, and it is the same for everyone. Crafting a piece takes 7–10 days. International shipping can take up to 25. Thirty-five days before December 25 is November 20, which is why we publish a single worldwide cut-off rather than a different date per country. Order by then and the piece is made, finished and moving before the last postal push of the year.

Orders placed after November 20 are still welcome — the workshop does not close — but we will not promise December 25, because a custom piece genuinely cannot be rushed in the final week without looking like it was. If you have left it late, a digital gift card or a pre-purchase note explaining that the real gift arrives in January is more honest than a rushed keepsake.
